About Us

Kinangop Constituency is among five constituencies that make up Nyandarua county. The constituency sits on slightly above 980 sq kms west of the Aberdare ranges, in what was commonly referred to as the white highlands. In relation to the other four constituencies that make up the county, Kinangop is the largest, taking one third of the entire county’s area, population as well as voters.

Agriculture is the main income earner in the constituency, with majority of the farms practicing small scale dairy farming, vegetable production and sheep rearing. A fair share of households are slowly turning into commercial, floricultural and horticultural farming. Pyrethrum production which was a major income earner is also slowly crawling back.

The main challenges affecting the constituency have been, perennial water shortages especially in the lower parts of the constituency. Poor rood network has been a great challenge since time immemorial, orchestrated by regular heavy rainfall. Nonetheless the road network is now fair with the government undertaking numerous road upgrades. The Constituency has also had had poor connectivity to mains power which currently stands at just about 50%.
